The Isa Mother City Rollers made their debut performance in the Cape Town Carnival on 18 March!
It was a fantastic experience for us to participate in the pre-parade of the Cape Town Carnival! And so much FUN! We skated our way past cheering onlookers and performed a choreographed routine at five stations along the route.
For many of our skaters, this was the first time skating in such a large event and performing in front of a crowd. We skated to the song ‘Skate’ by Anderson .Paak, Bruno Mars, and Silk Sonic, sharing our passion for roller skating with everyone. The excitement from the crowd when they saw our skates and dance moves was infectious. As a result, we were all equally pumped!
We really do want the whole city to join in and dance on wheels. Because it’s fun!
The Carnival took place on Saturday 18th March 2023 on the Fan Walk in Green Point, Cape Town.
It was a phenomenal learning experience for the club; from planning the costumes and makeup to choregraphing and rehearsing our dance routines. We were a large group of 23 skaters from all around Cape Town, some only learning how to roller skate recently.
We are so thankful to every member of the group for joining in with such dedication and a great team spirit. It certainly was not easy skating (and dancing!) on the uneven road and facing the challenges at the start and finish. Everyone took it in their stride and kept on rolling with a smile on their faces!
